Hedwig and the Angry Inch follows Hedwig, a genderqueer rock singer from East Berlin, on a turbulent journey of self-discovery and revenge with her band, The Angry Inch. The musical combines raw rock music with personal monologues to explore love, loss and identity.

This Hong Kong production, directed by Ivanhoe Lam, features Jordan Cheng, winner of the 2023 Hong Kong Theatre Award for Best Actor, as Hedwig. Kira Chan and Vivian Chan alternate in the role of Yitzhak, Hedwig’s husband and bandmate, while Veronica Lee serves as music director. This marks the first time the musical has been adapted and performed in Cantonese in Hong Kong.

Performances run from 10 to 18 May 2025 at Freespace, WestK. The venue transforms into a rock carnival atmosphere with DJ parties, games, and interactive moments that invite audiences to engage with Hedwig’s story-a reflection on being seen and accepted for who you are, told through humour, emotion, and energetic rock songs.

We met with director Ivanhoe Lam and Jordan Cheng.
